Good Morning Britain viewers were left fuming over a debate about banning chocolate advent calendars.
Yes, seriously.
During an appearance on the ITV show, PR consultant Nick Ede explained that, during an obesity ‘epidemic’, having chocolate every morning is not a healthy choice.
‘The reason I have an issue with that [chocolate advent calendars] is giving your children chocolate in the morning,’ he told Ben Shepherd and Ranvir Singh.
‘It’s not just one chocolate, you’ll get one from your granny, from your auntie, it’s probably five chocolate buttons you’ll get every day.
‘There’s an epidemic at the moment of people who are becoming addicted to the different types of sugars. Also the chocolate isn’t as good as it was in our day.’
When Towie star Amy Childs suggested that a ‘little bit of chocolate’ was fine in the morning, the pop culture expert revealed that it all added up.
‘25 days of chocolate actually equates to around four or five actual bars of chocolate a month,’ he continued.
‘We’re basically saying, for the whole of the year, watch what you’re eating and you’ve got to eat healthy. Oh, but for this month [you can have] sugar every single morning.
‘I was excited to see a picture behind a piece of cardboard with glitter on it. I think kids could still be like that.’
Unfortunately, those watching at home didn’t agree with Nick, flocking to Twitter to debate his comments.
‘Come on! The 1 time of the year to let kids be kids,’ a viewer replied. ‘Leave the advent calendar alone, what next? Stop Christmas?’
‘Omg people actually debating whether advert calendars should be ditched…’ another commented.
‘It’s a tiny bit of chocolate. Honestly this world is messed up when that’s a serious debate gtf and stop ruining everything… Mad snowflakes #GMB #AdventCalendar (sic).’
While one urged: ‘#GMB a little bit of chocolate in the morning isn’t going to harm anyone! #Christmas2019 dt ruin the fun! (sic).’
Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays, at 6am, on ITV.
